Hazem Daoud, president@esana.net

Hazem Daoud is PhD candidate in the department of physics at the University of Toronto. His research focus is in the field of quantum optics, in particular ultrafast electron diffraction. Hazem received his BASc degree in Engineering Physics at the University of Toronto in 2014 and a MSc degree in Physics at the University of Toronto in 2015.

Hazem’s journey with Egyptian student associations started in 2016 when he became the social officer for ESA-UofT. For the year 2017/2018 he served as president where he focused on catering to the graduate and undergraduate Egyptian communities on campus. One of the highlight events was inviting Dr. Essam Heggy to give an academic talk followed by a light discussion with Egyptian students.

Hazem joined ESANA as a volunteer in the units officer position and helped organize the General Assembly (GA) meeting in February 2018 where he was officially elected as ESANA’s units officer.

As the current president of ESANA Hazem is working on reviving ESANA and making it more inviting to all Egyptian students across North America so that it serves as the ‘backbone’ for the Egyptian community, this in addition to overcoming some of the challenges that ESANA currently faces.

Hazem is open to any ideas or suggestions to improve ESANA from anyone in the Egyptian community.

Vice President
Sara Ibrahim Omar, vicepresident@esana.net

Sara Ibrahim Omar is a Postdoctoral fellow at the department of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta. Her research focuses on using computational techniques to design drugs and model proteins. Sara earned her PhD degree in 2019 from the University of Alberta. She obtained her MSc degree in Chemistry from the University of Manitoba and her BSc degree in Pharmacy and Biotechnology from the German University in Cairo, Egypt. Sara was elected as the ESA treasurer at the University of Manitoba in 2011 and was elected as the ESA Vice President at the University of Alberta in 2013. She was also the ESANA Book Campaign Manager in Canada starting from 2017.

Mennatallah Hussein is a Junior in Aerospace Engineering with a concentration in aeronautics at Arizona State University. Menna was elected as the ESA president at ASU in Fall 2018.

Units Officer
Mazen Gamal Abdelgawad Elsaid, units@esana.net

Mazen is a graduate from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He will start his PhD study in Chemistry at Texas Tech University in Fall 2019. He served as the president of the Egyptian Student Association at the University of Minnesota for his junior and senior years and is currently serving as the Units Officer at ESANA for the 2019-2020 term.

iTech Officer
Moataz Abdelkhalek, itech@esana.net

Moataz is a Ph.D. candidate at the department of Computer Engineering, Iowa State University. His research focuses on identifying new security measures for malware reverse engineering. Moataz earned his M.Sc. degree in 2017 from the Nile University in Egypt, and his B.Sc. degree in communications and electronics engineering from Tanta University, Egypt, in 2007. Moataz was elected as the vise president of the ESA (Egyptian Student Association) in Iowa State University in 2018 then in 2019 he was elected to be the president. Currently, Moataz is the iTech officer of the ESANA Executive Committee for year 2019-2020.

Safinaz is our volunteer social officer this year. She is a senior Penn State undergraduate student who is majoring in Industrial
Engineering and Supply Chain management. She is also the Vice-President of Penn State Behrend’s Student Government Association and the Co-chair of the IISE Northeast Regional Conference 2020. She loves to paint, travel, and most importantly meet new people!

Mohamed Aboelnour received his MSc degree in Geodetection and Information Technology from China University of Geosciences, Beijing, China, in 2013. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Environmental Engineering at Purdue University, Indiana, USA. Aboelnour has been with Suez Canal University, Faculty of Science, Geology Department, Ismailia, Egypt since 2009, where he received his BSc in Geology. Summer 2017, he was elected to be the Vice President of the Egyptian student Association at Purdue University. Starting February 2018, Aboelnour was elected to be the treasurer officer of the ESANA Executive Committee in its General Assembly in Washington DC.

Ahmed Badr, president@esana.net

Ahmed Badr received his B.Sc., and M.Sc. degrees both from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 2006, and 2010, respectively. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alberta, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department. He was elected President of Egyptian Students’ Association at University of Alberta for the 2017/2018 term. Starting February 2018, he was elected Vice President of ESANA for the 2018/2019 term.

Ahmed El-Hefnawy is a Ph.D. Visiting Research Scholar at Texas A&M University. El-Hefnawy previously received his Bachelor and Master of Molecular Forensic Entomology from Benha University, Egypt. Ahmed is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree with the Department of Entomology in the Forensic Science. He was nominated to be the vice president of the Egyptian Student Association at the University of Texas A&M and the Media officer of the ESANA Executive Committee (Feb. 2018).

Mohamed Selim received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Suez Canal University, Egypt, in 2006, the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Portsaid University, Egypt, in 2011, and the M.Sc. degree in computer engineering from Iowa State University, USA, 2016, where he is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Iowa State University. Selim was nominated to be the president of the Egyptian Student Association at Iowa State University Fall 2015 and he is going to step down August 2017. From January 2017, Selim is the iTech officer of the ESANA Executive Committee.

Radwa Ewaisha is a Molecular and Cellular Biology PhD candidate in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University, USA. Her research at the ASU Biodesign Center for Personalized Diagnostics focuses on the discovery and validation of blood biomarkers for the detection of HPV-associated cancers, including cervical and oropharyngeal cancers. Radwa got her BSc. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Master’s of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University in Egypt. She currently serves as President of the ESANA unit at ASU. She was elected as Social Affairs Officer of ESANA during the GA meeting in January 2018.

Mohammed El-Gendy, president@esana.net

Mohammed El-Gendy is a PhD candidate in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He received a BSc degree in civil engineering from Assiut University and an MSc degree in structural engineering from the University of Manitoba in 2009 and 2015, respectively. He is currently the president of the ESANA local chapter at the University of Manitoba (ESANA-UofM). He joined ESANA EC in July 2016 as the units’ officer until he was elected as the president in January 2017.

Hisham Sleem , vicepresident@esana.net

Dr. Hisham Sleem is an Assistant Professor at National Research Centre, Cairo, Egypt. In 2013, he awarded his PhD degree in Chemistry, Memorial University, Canada. Dr. Sleem received his MSc and BSc degrees in Chemistry, Menoufia University, Egypt in 2003 and 1996 respectively.

Dr. Sleem has a wide experience serving students in Egypt and internationally. In 2010, he served as CGS (Chemistry Graduate Society, Memorial University, Canada) Secretary. In 2011, he served as ESA (Memorial University, Canada) Vice-President, while in 2012 he served as ESA President. In 2012 and 2013 Dr. Sleem has elected to serve as GSU (Graduate Student Union, Memorial University, Canada) Vice-President and President respectively. He was the first international graduate student in the Memorial University history to serve in these positions. Recently, in 2016 he was elected to serve as ESA President, Cape Breton University, Canada.

Ahmed Ghazy is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Manitoba. Ghazy previously received his Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt. He was nominated to be the vice president of the Egyptian Student Association at the University of Manitoba and the Media officer of the ESANA Executive Committee (Jan. 2017). Ghazy is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) and the former vice president for ACI Manitoba Student Chapter and currently act as a treasurer for the chapter.

Omar El Bassiouni is a B.Eng candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario. El Bassiouni co-founded the Egyptian Student Association at Ryerson University in Winter 2014 and is the current President. His term will end in Spring 2017. From January 2017, El Bassiouni is the Units officer of the ESANA Executive Committee.

Ahmd El-Awady received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 2009, and his M.Sc. degree in Environmental Engineering from Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, Ain Shams University, Egypt, in 2012. Ahmed is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree with the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Ahmed was nominated to be the president of the Egyptian Student Association at UWaterloo during Winter 2015. Starting January 2017, Ahmed was nominated to be the social affairs officer of the ESANA Executive Committee in its general assembly in Washington DC.

Mahmoud Fouly received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2015. He served as president of the UIUC ESANA chapter in his final year as an undergraduate. Shortly after graduating, Mahmoud joined MilliporeSigma (A business of Merck KGaA) as a production scientist. Concurrent to working full time at MilliporeSigma, Mahmoud is also pursuing an MS degree in Materials Science from UIUC. Mahmoud has already served a term on the ESANA Executive Board as the Social Affairs Officer (2015/16) and has been elected as Treasurer for the 2017/18 term.
