The ESANA Executive Committee (EC) is composed of seven members who are:

2020/2021

President
Hazem Daoud, president@esana.net

Hazem Daoud is PhD candidate in the department of physics at the University of Toronto. His research focus is in the field of quantum optics, in particular ultrafast electron diffraction. Hazem received his BASc degree in Engineering Physics at the University of Toronto in 2014 and a MSc degree in Physics at the University of Toronto in 2015.

Hazem’s journey with Egyptian student associations started in 2016 when he became the social officer for ESA-UofT. For the year 2017/2018 he served as president where he focused on catering to the graduate and undergraduate Egyptian communities on campus. One of the highlight events was inviting Dr. Essam Heggy to give an academic talk followed by a light discussion with Egyptian students.

Hazem joined ESANA as a volunteer in the units officer position and helped organize the General Assembly (GA) meeting in February 2018 where he was officially elected as ESANA’s units officer.

As the current president of ESANA Hazem is working on reviving ESANA and making it more inviting to all Egyptian students across North America so that it serves as the ‘backbone’ for the Egyptian community, this in addition to overcoming some of the challenges that ESANA currently faces.

Hazem is open to any ideas or suggestions to improve ESANA from anyone in the Egyptian community.

Treasurer
Youhanna Meleka, treasurer@esana.net

My name is Youhanna Meleka, I am an incoming junior at Penn State, majoring in Industrial Engineering. I was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, and I graduated from the International School of Choueifat with distinction.

Alongside engineering, I am highly intrigued by the financial markets and aggregate economics, I always keep a close eye on economic trends and the country’s fiscal and monetary policies.

I believe I am a good fit for the ESANA Treasure role because I have a lot of relevant experience in the field that is highly applicable and transferable to aid me in successfully taking the role. For instance, I am the treasurer for the Engineering Undergraduate Council for the college of engineering at Penn State, where I manage approximately $133,000 in the form of the Dean’s fund which I have direct co-sign authority over.

I strongly believe in rebuilding ESANA to what it once was and I am confident that I will positively impact the organization through rational open mindedness and progressive action. I have already demonstrated great willingness to contribute and develop the organization in the past GA meeting by being vocal about many pressing issues, and have pushed for progressive up to date reform by streamlining communication via the creation of a whatsapp group chat between all the units presidents.
